Pint-sized potters got hands-on at a special session at Walton-le-Dale’s Fired 4 U studio.

Nine children aged from 14 months to three-and-a-half years were joined by their parents and grandparents in making Chinese lanterns and decorating pottery horse shoes. Jane Fox, owner of Fired 4 U, said: “We run these ‘mini potters’ sessions on the first Thursday of every month.

“Catering specifically for pre-school children, the idea is to prove that even at very young ages, they can enjoy crafts and pottery making, as well as getting parents interacting.
“We usually begin by playing a few quiet games, so the children settle in, then we sing some nursery songs with actions.

“I pick a theme for each session, and this week it was Chinese New Year. It takes place on January 31, and it will be the year of the horse.

“We laid out the big tables with paper lanterns that the children put together, and then we got them to decorate pottery horse shoes with all kinds of things like glitter and material.

“Everyone had a whale of a time.”
