Talented youngsters catapulted themselves to county glory after somersaulting their way to success in a schools’ competition.

More than 60 children from across Preston’s schools packed into Preston Gymnastics Club, Campbell Street, Deepdale, to try to bag a place in the Spar Lancashire School Games on July, 1.

Athletes entered the gymnastics event for youngsters aged nine and under in the hope of representing Preston at the games.

But Harris Primary School reigned triumphant, as the school’s Team A secured their place in the county final and was crowned Preston’s best in the group competition.

The school, based in Wychnor, Fulwood, made a clean sweep of the individual event, too, as Grace Kellett, Lucy Waine and Amber Yates won and are set to challenge other talented gymnasts from across the county in July.

Dean Brandwood, Preston Council’s schools games organiser, said: “The gymnastics club is continuing its hugely supportive role in delivering coaching and competition across the city.”
