Hundreds of student bedrooms are to be created in Preston, with the development of two major accommodation sites.

The city council’s planning committee gave the green light to plans for two schemes - 190 student apartments off Garstang Road and 218 off Moor Lane.

An application has been submitted relating to the site of the former Canterbury Hall in Garstang Road, for a five-storey building of 190 apartments, along with a study area, gym and roof terrace.

The proposals for Innovation House, off Sizer Street and Moor Lane, were tabled by Ladson Group and include the creation of two four-storey buildings with commercial space on the ground floor.

They were approved unanimously, after officers recommended them for the green light, with conditions.

Guy Ladson, director of Ladson Group, said: “We are delighted to develop a run down site on the right on the edge of the university campus to create much needed high quality student accommodation.”
