Fund-raiser for Alfie and Arthur Lowe from Salwick

A family fun day organised by a businessman to support two disabled boys has raised more than £5,000.

A family fun day organised by a businessman to support two disabled boys has raised more than £5,000.When Pete Marquis, who runs a self titled contracting business, heard six-year-old Arthur and Alfie Lowe, who have Down’s Syndrome, needing sensory equipment, he organised a fund-raiser at the Hand and Dagger, in Salwick, to boost funds for their mum Emma.Emma, of Salwick, said: “I can’t believe how much was raised. When I found it, I cried.“It is such a nice thing for Pete to do. It was his birthday and instead of presents, he asked people to donate and organised a family barbecue event. There was a huge skip, where people donated money and there was also dodgems, which the children and adults all loved.“Pete did something similar last year, helping us to buy specialist buggies for them.“The money raised will go towards sensory equipment, such as a bubble machine, which is really expensive, but really valuable for the boys’ development. They both have Down’s Syndrome and Alfie also has autism.“Any money left over will go towards High Five, which is a Chorley-based group which provides activities for disabled children and their families and supports the boys.”

Peter said: "Thank you to everyone who came. This amazing figure means we can pay for the boys' sensory equipment and give more than £3,000 for High Five."
