Friends group draws up a blueprint for revived park

The Friends of Conway Park group has unveiled a masterplan to rejuvenate the Conway Park play area in Fulwood.

The park currently has ageing play equipment and few walkways, limiting disabled and pushchair access.

The residents’ group has been driving a bid to transform the area, working with a host of local partners including Cadley Football Club, to help draw up a blueprint.

The plans, drawn up by landscape architects at Preston Council, include adventure play equipment, new fitness equipment and events area with new safer pathways and surfaces and a new wildflower and meadow walk.

Residents are being invited to view the scheme as part of a public consultation and give their feedback on the plans.

Neighbour Carol Shaw, a member of the Friends of Conway Park, said: “There has been a lot of discussions and ideas amongst the group and lots of people involved from Preston City Council and Lancashire County Council.

“We had a public meeting last year to discuss a few local issues and the group was born from that. It’s been a real community effort, residents, councillors, the football club.

“Now we need to gather everybody’s views to help make final plans and drive things forward and start fundraising.”

The Friends are hoping to host a launch event, with the help of the community and lbusinesses to help get the first phase of work off the ground.

Carol added: “We have been working hard behind the scenes, researching and learning from other similar groups like the Friends of Grimsargh Green to help form these draft plans. Once we have a final plan in place, we will need to do some fundraising to get the project off the ground.”

The plans are on display at Fulwood Leisure Centre and a Friends of Conway Park representative will be available on the desk on Thursday from 6.45pm to 8pm, and on Friday at 10.45am to 1.15pm.

There will also be a display in the Pavillion building on Conway Park, available to view during match days until March 11 and at Harris Primary School, Our Lady and St Edwards and Queens Drive Primary Schools. See friendsofconwaypark.co.uk
