People are being encouraged to stay warm this winter and take advantage of free servicing for their gas fire or boiler.

South Ribble Council is working in partnership with Help Direct, Age Concern and local health bodies to deliver the scheme to individuals who meet the criteria.

To be eligible for the scheme, people must be over 65 with a medical condition, live in a household with a child aged under 5 or have a disability.

Those who are eligible will be offered free gas servicing of up to two appliances.

South Ribble Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for strategic planning and housing, Coun Cliff Hughes, said: “Our housing experts have helped hundreds of residents to take advantage of a whole variety of heating and energy-saving schemes over the last few years.

“We are always looking at new ways we can work with our partners to provide practical advice and support to residents across the borough, and I’m pleased that we can offer free gas fire and boiler servicing, particularly during the cold winter months.

“This will no doubt be a popular scheme so I would urge anyone who is eligible to take up the offer as soon as possible.”
