Morecambe Lifeboat volunteers launched the inshore rescue lifeboat at 8.37pm last night (Thursday June 30) to reports of multiple groups of people cut off by the incoming tide near the Boardwalk pub.

On arrival to the scene eight people had safely made their way to the shore, however, four people were still playing on the beach unaware of the incoming tide surrounding them.

Trevor McMeeking, RNLI volunteer Helmsman said: "The ever changing tides and gulleys within Morecambe bay make it a very dangerous place, the tide can creep up around people without them noticing they are in danger. Luckily, the tides this week are lower and the people were not in immediate danger.

“This call out showed great multi-disciplinary team work between ourselves and HM Coastguard to ensure the safety of the multiple groups of people.

"We would like to remind the public to be cautious around the coastline and if in any danger call 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
