Footballers say thank you to Heartbeat

Clubs and players from the Lancashire Sunday Football League have made a donation of £3,783.00 to Heartbeat, the League's adopted charity.

The money was raised by individual donations from member clubs, from the proceeds of the League’s Christmas meeting and a large amount was raised by a Boxing Event organised by footballer Craig Ashcroft, which proved extremely popular with bouts featuring players from different clubs in the League.

League Chairman Eamonn McNamara said: “We are delighted to be supporting Heartbeat which is such an important charity and one which our members can benefit from”.

League officials are concerned that every week at least 12 ‘apparently’ fit and healthy young people die in the UK from undiagnosed heart conditions.

People (14-36 year olds) involved in sport, stress their hearts the most and if they have an underlying cardiac abnormality they are more likely to be at risk, in most cases there are no obvious symptoms.

The League’s partnership with Heartbeat has enabled over 200 players and referees from the league to have the benefit of a cardiac test over the course of the past season at the Charity’s HQ at PNE and it is hoped that this will be an on-going programme.
