Footballer Bethany wants to show a tomboy can win Miss Preston

A footballer says she wants to prove you don't have to be a 'girly-girl' to be crowned Miss Preston.

Bethany Lowe, 24, from Penwrotham is hoping to become Miss Preston.

Voting for the beauty pageant finishes this afternoon and self-confessed tomboy Bethany Lowe is one of the finalists.

The 24-year-old from Penwortham will compete in the glamorous final tonight along with 27 other young women vying for the title.

“I’ve always been interested in entering and why can’t a tomboy win it?” Bethany said. “I’ve never done a catwalk in my life so that part should be fun.”

The engineer who plays for Penwortham Town says she might not be the “standard mould” for the competition and says her friends still can’t believe it.

”I’ve always been known for my love of Preston and everyone has been really supportive,” she said. “All the girls get on really well which should make tonight easier and hopefully I can do well.”

Bethany held a charity football tournament as part of her fundraising for children’s charity Variety and to vote for her text MISS PR29 to 63333 before 7pm.
