Flood warnings in force in Lancashire

A total of ten warnings and 15 flood alerts are currently in force throughout the county.

There are no severe flood warnings.

In the ‘flood warning’ areas, the Environment Agency says flooding is expected and immediate action required.

These areas include the River Ribble at Samlesbury.

Heavy rain is expected to continue throughout today and into the early hours of Sunday.

River levels are already beginning to rise and will continue to do so during today, with the forecast peak at 9.45pm.

Environment Agency staff are monitoring the situation and operations staff are out on the ground.

Also under the alert are the River Lune at Halton and Skerton Pool, the River Ribble at Ribchester, the River Wenning at High and Low Bentham and the River Calder at Whalley.

The flood alert areas affect the Upper River Wharfe, the Upper River Ure, Rivers Brathay, Rothay and Winster, Rivers Duddon, Crake and Mill Beck, Rivers Kent and Bela, River Calder, Lower River Lune Conder, Lower River Ribble and Darwen, Lower River Wyre, Upper River Lune, Upper River Ribble, Hodder, Upper River Wyre, Brock, River Aire Upper Catchment, River Calder Upper Catchment, Earby Beck and Glusburn Beck Catchments.

At these locations the Environment says flooding is possible and to be prepared.
