Firefighters free 'distressed' dog trapped in garden gate

A 'distressed' dog was rescued by firefighters after it got its head stuck in a garden gate in Ribbleton.

Firefighters were called out to the trapped pooch, called 'Princess Shakira', on March 15 after it tried squeeze its head between a gap in railings, say fire services.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "We went out to an incident where a dog got its head stuck in a gate.

"Thankfully, we managed to rescue the dog by cutting a metal strut from the gate using a pedal cutter.

"The dog was becoming quite distressed so it was great to be able to help.

"We're pleased to report that 'Princess Shakira' went off wagging her tail none the worse for her experience."
