"Children were spotted running away from a pile of garden waste that appeared to have been set on fire.

"We used hosereels to put the fire out.

"The fire was very close to some trees and because of the dry, warm weather, there was a potential for the fire to spread.

"But thankfully, we managed to extinguish the fire before this happened."

Nobody was injured during the incident.

Crews from Preston were called again around half an hour later at 8.50pm to Sharples Scrap Yard on London Road.
