The service will be promoting business fire safety advice to private sector landlords across the county.

From October 1, subject to Parliamentary approval, The Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (England) Regulations 2015 will require certain private sector landlords to install a smoke alarm on every floor of their property and a carbon monoxide alarm in rooms containing a solid fuel appliance. Landlords will also be required to check that the alarms are working at the start of every new tenancy.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) has been given 12,000 smoke alarms and 1,000 carbon monoxide alarms to give out to specific private sector landlords free of charge and the service is using the week to help communicate these new changes to landlords.

“We are keen to work with local landlords to improve the safety of tenants across our area,” said group manager Tony Crook of LFRS.

“We would urge those landlords who need to take action to comply with the new regulations to contact us by visiting the new dedicated business support plus section of our website and following the onscreen instructions.”
