Three takeaways in Preston are to be visited over fire safety concerns that were raised during a police operation to tackle anti social behaviour.

Twelve food outlets and 12 licensed premises were visited by officers during an operation to crack down on alcohol-related trouble.

All premises refused to sell alcohol to an undercover teenager, but during visits to check takeaways’ licence conditions were being met, concerns were raised about fire hazards at three premises.

PC Julie Stewart said: “Four years ago, 20 per cent of premises failed a similar test purchasing operation. I’m pleased to see the premises visited on this occasion were aware of their responsibilities.

“We will continue to carry on with our enforcement of legislation over the coming months and will take robust action against those who pay scant regard to their responsibilities when it comes to the sale of alcohol.”
