Fire crews from Lancashire and Cumbria fight blaze in picturesque village

Eight fire crews were called to fight a blaze in a barn in the picturesque village of Yealand Conyers in North Lancashire late last night.

Appliances from Silverdale, Carnforth, Bolton-le-Sands and Garstang, together with two from Cumbria and an aerial ladder platform in Blackpool were all needed to bring the fire under control.

The barn, part of a commercial property on Yealand Road, was badly damaged and an investigation into the cause of the blaze, which began at around 11.30pm, due to get underway today.

It took until 3am before some crews were able to stand down, with other firefighters remaining at the scene to damp down.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue said: "An investigation is due to begin as soon as possible."
