A fashionable start for a Lady Captain
Shaw Hill Golf Club's new Lady Captain started her role in style, by organising a fashion show.
Alison Davidson was delighted with the event, which raised £1,945 for her chosen charity, Alder Hey Children’s hospital.
Alison says: “When I was elected as Lady Captain, I chose to support Alder Hey after my two-year-old grandson, Knox, had a serious head operation there as he was born with cranial fusion.
“It was very traumatic at the time but it has been more than 18 months since he had the operation and he is fine now. The transformation following his operation is amazing.
“Our family is eternally gratefully for the care and support they received during an extremely difficult time, so this is a chance to give something back.”
The catwalk was presented by Flamingo of Penwortham, showing a range of fashions from casual and smart, through to mother of the bride and evening wear.
There was also a range of food stalls, including a chocoholic’s heaven from Choc Amor and treats for coelics from Chargedberry.
There was also a raffle, with prizes donated by local businesses, including Ebb and Flo Bookshop, Fab Faux Flora, Antonia’s Handbags and Phoenix Trading.
Alison adds: “It was truly a spectacular show and a sell out as the venue was full.
“We were extremely well supported and we raised £1,945 which is amazing.
“We hold a fashion show every year and it is the first fund-raiser in the calendar as a newly elected captain.
“It is always an event we really enjoy as it is great fun.
“Each year we find a different boutique to showcase their fashions and I chose Flamingos. I am grateful all their hard work and support.
“We also had a range of stalls, including Choc Amor and Chargedberry, which proved very popular with our ladies.
“I am so grateful to everyone who supported this amazing event.
“Special thanks go to the models, the team at Shaw Hill, especially Mrs Tyrer for her generosity, Oliver and Jack and the maintenance team Stephen and Martin.
“I also wish to mention Betty Duffin for the loan of the catwalk and all the stall holders.”
Alison took over the role of Lady Captain, following in the footsteps of Hilary Powell, in February.
The Lady Captain elect is Susan Haworth, who will take over next February.
