Given the choice of tea my kids will plump for one of two choices – ‘fish fingers’ (Don’t tell Anna May Mangan) or ‘pizza’.

There is no shortage of Italians in the Preston area but it was thanks to old faithful Google I came across Fabio Real Italian in Fishergate Hill run by father and son team Alberto and Fabio.

With more than 40 years combined experience in the food trade, they promise to deliver ‘restaurant quality at takeaway prices’.

Given my fondness for Italian cuisine , I’m not quite sure how I hadn’t come across them before but a quick look at their Facebook page and with the added bonus of delivery, I was more than happy to give them a try.

A pizza Fabio for the kid , a salmon pasta for me and I threw in a couple of starters, with the promise of wine, in a hope of enticing my sister round for the evening to help with the bedtime routine.

The Gamberoni Catalana £4 (king prawns cooked in white wine and garlic) was a little bit messy to eat but nice to try and the Funghi Gratinati al Forno (mushrooms oven cooked with garlic and white wine) also £4 tasted a lot better than it looked.

The pizzas, available in 7-inch, 12-inch and 14-inch bases are very reasonably priced from £4 to £12.

The Fabio a meat-feast of a pizza at £9 was delicious.

The thin crust base was cooked perfectly crisp not to soft or soggy .

There was no scrimping on the toppings and the cheese was not overcooked, bubbling nicely on the top.And there was plenty enough for all of us to feast on – and just as well because the children also decided they would like dibs on the pasta too.

The salmon served in a light creamy tomato sauce and tossed in tagliatelle was quite rich but the salmon was lovely and tender.

I was also worried it might need re-heating with the delivery time to factor but I was able to plate straight up and devour it while it was still hot.

Like many other reviewers Fabio’s Real Italian gets the thumbs up from me and will certainly be one of our new added favourites
