The extension relates to the hospital’s car park H, to the rear of the Sharoe Green Unit and Medical Rehabilitation Unit that has been in use since 2004.

It includes the addition of low level lighting that designers say will “improve safety” for workers returning to their vehicles at night.

A hospital spokesperson said a start date for the extension work is yet to be set.

According to a council report, the local authority received four letters of objection voicing concerns about loss of trees and privacy as a result of the development.

Officers concluded, though, it would “not have a significant detrimental impact on residential amenity.”

The planning report said: “The application site currently comprises land of which the best and most efficient use is not being made.”
