FRIENDS of a former Preston student who died while travelling in Vietnam are organising an event in his memory.

Jake O’Grady, who had been a student of Preston’s College, died on New Year’s Day.

Now his pals are planning an event to celebrate his life and raise any funds his family may need for the future.

‘Let’s Dance for Jake O’Grady’ is set to take place on Friday night at C2 nightclub in Morecambe.

The entry fee is £10 and tickets are also on sale on Skiddle.com.

A selection of DJs will play the music Jake loved at the event, which will run from 8.30pm.

Jake, who was 26 and was also a former pupil of Our Lady’s Catholic College in Lancaster, had been backpacking around south east Asia and was due to attend a party at a hostel in Hanoi.

Tributes to Mr O’Grady, who had previously been living in Preston have been posted on his Facebook page.

An event page set up on ticketing website Skiddle states: “Jake was an outgoing friendly guy who was loved by many people.

“[A friend] came up with the idea of coming together to celebrate Jake’s life and raise as much money as possible to help his family with any future costs.”

Jake was described by tutors at Preston College as “a considerate, warm and passionate individual.”

A spokesman for the college added: “Jake made such a positive impact on his fellow students and his tutors, his ability and determination would have made Jake a top class nurse and he will always be in the memories of those who knew him.”
