The son of Eric Morecambe has backed a series of events to celebrate the return of the statue of his famous father.

Gary Morecambe also said his mum, Eric’s widow Joan, wants to be there when the repaired Eric Morecambe statue is unveiled.

Lancaster Council announced that the statue will return to its rightful home on the seafront on Thursday, December 11. Following the recent damage to the statue, the city council has been working closely with its creator, sculptor Graham Ibbeson, to make the necessary repairs.

Graham is also working on plans for a celebratory ‘Eric Morecambe Day’ in July 2015.

A life-size bronze piece of wall art of both the TV comedian and his partner Ernie Wise could also go on permanent display in Morecambe.

“In a word these plans are fantastic,” said Gary. “We all love the idea of an Eric Morecambe Day and the family will always make sure one or more of us is there to celebrate these days with the people of Morecambe.”
