Work finished on overhead wires on train route

Work is now complete on the overhead wires on the Preston to Blackpool rail track.

A major programme of works for the electrification of the line has been going on over the last six months, leading to total closure of the line and a replacement bus service.

The stretch between Preston and Blackpool South was completed last month, and the route to Blackpool North is scheduled to reopen on Monday, April 16.

The Great North Rail Project announced this weekend that work on the overhead wires is now complete.

GNPR tweeted: "All overhead wires between Preston and Blackpool North are now up. Work continues to get the new equipment ready for electric trains. Greener, quieter and more reliable journeys are coming."
