Warning following latest incident of fly-tipping in Lancashire

Reader Johnny Knight send the Post these pictures of what appears to be an old settee, a bed and other items dumped in Clifton Lane, Clifton, near Preston.

Preston-based Johnny said a friend took the pictures of the tipping in the leafy country lane and he felt he should send them to the Post to see if anything could be done.

Johnny said: “It’s a lovely part of the countryside and for people to dump stuff like that it’s terrible.”

Fylde Council is investigating the incident. A council spokesman said the tipping had been reported to them.

The spokesman added: “Where sufficient evidence is uncovered by investigation, actions will be taken against individuals and companies.

“The waste is also removed from public land with the assistance of our Operational Services Unit.”

The Post revealed recently fly-tipping incidents in the city have more than doubled in the last year, costing taxpayers nearly £360,000.

And only days ago grandad-of-seven Kenny Deverson, 62, of Waverley Road, Ribbleton, says he has become the ‘caretaker’ of his own ginnel, as careless neighbours dump stinking waste behind their homes.

Recent figures show incidents in Preston increased from 1,490 in 2015/16 to 3,040 in 2016/17.

Coun Robert Boswell, cabinet member for environment, said recently: “When we receive fly tipping reports we act as quickly as possible with the resources accessible to us.”
