Homes in parts of Wyre were left without water on Wednesday and Thursday.
United Utilities said homes in the PR3 postcode area had no water or a poor supply from about 6.40pm on Wednesday.
The company issued an update on Thursday morning, identifying the problem in the Calder Vale area.
It said: “A leak on Burnside Ave affecting customers in PR3 has been spotted and reported to us.
“Our inspector has been to have a look and found this to be the cause for some of you having no water or just a trickle.
“A team of engineers has been requested to attend and should be on site as soon as possible.
“We’re sorry for the trouble this may be causing you and we will get your taps flowing normally again as quickly as we can.”
A further update at 7.40am said: “A team of engineers are on the way to Burnside Avenue to begin repairs to the burst water pipe.
“They should be on site as soon as possible and we will get your taps flowing normally again.”
