Part of D’Urton Lane has been closed for more than a year while a new roundabout was being built between D’Urton Lane and Eastway.

Lancashire County Council (LCC) had initially hoped to open the road on Monday, February 24 but the authority says with the wet weather the opening date may need to be pushed back.

A council spokesman said: “We’re in the very final stages of work to open this new road early next week, but this may be affected slightly by the recent bad weather.”

Contractors are yet to put down the markings, which is more difficult in wet weather.

D’Urton Lane is a key link for motorists travelling from Preston, providing an alternative route to James Towers Way instead of heading to the congested Broughton roundabout at junction one of the M55.

The closure, put in place 130 metres west of Highrigg Drive, was part of planning permission requirements that were approved by Preston Council for Story Homes’ D’Urton Manor housing development.

Broughton Parish Council says that after the road is opened some tasks will still need to be completed including seeding, and erecting permanent fencing to the ponds.

The stretch of road in D’Urton Lane had been closed in January 2019.

Prior to that in February 2017, the road was closed off on the Eastway side for sewers to be built for a Persimmon Homes development in Highrigg.
