Food, glorious food, will fill Leyland town centre this summer as a host of popular traders are set to offer a variety of tasty treats as part of a special food festival.

The first ever Leyland Food Fayre takes place in Hough Lane, Leyland Market and Balfour Court on Saturday, August 29, where a selection of stalls will be selling foods from local establishments - and offering free tasters too.

Organised by the Leyland Guardian with support from South Ribble Council and Leyland Market, the fayre will also involve live music and free children’s activities such as cupcake decorating, face-painting and balloon modelling.

Food firms from Leyland and the surrounding area will be on hand to dish out snacks, lunches and samples from 10am until 4pm, with cuisine including Indian, Chinese, Italian, and Mexican.

There will also be traditional fish and chips, pancakes and crepes, and an unusual selection of burgers and sausages ranging from kangaroo, ostrich and venison, to antelope, crocodile and bison.

The event is sponsored by the Play Pad family play centre in Leyland, and there will be something for all the family at the food fayre too, with locally made ales available for the adults, and a magician to keep the children entertained.

There will also be a Children vs Food competition to encourage youngsters to eat their fruit and veg, and try new tastes on the day.

Leyland Market is setting up a special ‘Taste of Leyland’ sampler stall with cheeses, hams, salmon and prawn dishes, sausages, biscuits, cakes, sweets, and Cream Teas served at Café Noir.

Live music is being provided with support from the Creative Network and Northern Lights Entertainments, with talented singers performing a range of popular songs including soul and Motown favourites, classics from the 1970s and 1980s, modern acoustic pop, and an appearance from a top Lancashire folk duo.

Businesses already on Hough Lane are also getting in on the action, with the Market Ale House, Aroma’s Coffee Bar and Patisserie and Chicken Barbecue all opening their doors and coming out onto the high street to help create a special food trail in the town centre.

Other independent businesses from the area will also be counted for on a special Love Leyland stand, which will offer goody bags, special offers and a tombola.

Special thanks also go to HSS generator hire and Whittle Jones, who have helped make the event a possibility.
