Elderly man taken to hospital after tree traps car
An elderly driver has been taken to hospital with head injuries after a huge tree fell on to his car.
A man aged in his 70s was trapped in his blue Ford Mondeo after driving in Stanifield Lane, Farington.
The ambulance service was called at 12.50pm today (Tuesday), and sent a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance and advanced paramedics.
Fire crews and police also attended the scene, and used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the man, who was then taken to Royal Preston Hospital by ambulance.
He is suffering from a head injury and lower back pain, but it is not known how serious his condition is.
Lancashire County Council workers have been on site this afternoon to clear the road so it can reopen.
