A Lancashire university has a new chairman of the board.
Professor Clive Edwards has been appointed chairman of Edge Hill University’s Board of Governors and Pro-Chancellor, taking over from current chairman Bernard Laverty.
Clive, who has an extensive research record as a microbiologist, has served as an independent governor of Edge Hill since 2013.
He has been involved in teaching, research and management at departmental and institutional level at Liverpool University besides serving on various national educational committees.
He says he is very much looking forward to taking over the role and continuing to help develop the Ormskirk institution’s reputation for teaching and research.
Clive added: “Edge Hill offers a distinctive student experience.
“I am proud of the ways in which the campus has been developed and the continual investment to improve facilities.
“I am also very interested in how the university benefits the wider community, through things such as the state-of-the-art sports centre, the arts centre and the many public events on campus that contribute to the intellectual life of the region.”
Financial and management accounting expert Lisa Greenhalgh has been given the position of deputy chairman of the board.
Lisa was appointed as an independent governor in 2012 and is chairman of the audit committee.
The Board of Governors oversees the educational character and mission of the university with specific responsibilities for financial probity and the effective use of resources.
