Aspiring legal eagles from Academy@Worden in Leyland are celebrating their latest victory after beating tough competition from other local schools in a Mock Trial contest at Runshaw College.
Year 10 students Klaudia Witkowska, Ellen Barnes, Dale Culver and Lucy Smith, from the Gifted and Talented group, had a chance to see the legal system as a real-life experience where the defence and prosecution teams battled it out in law court surroundings.
Teams were given a scenario with and had to prepare cases both defence and prosecution.
Worden battled it out against a team from Bishop Rawstorne and Dale Culver was eventually awarded the prize for ‘Best Defence’ by the judging panel.
Suzanne Gardner, head of English at the Westfield Drive school said :“Having to initiate a response, while it being spontaneous, was a hard task to carry out, but the team thrived and performed to an exceptional level.”
