Twinkle-toed youngsters from a Lancashire public school are putting their talents to good use.
Photos taken of Stonyhurst dancers at the Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Beauty and the Beast workshop in Birmingham and at the college’s own grounds in the picturesque Ribble Valley, have been used to create a cultural calendar with a difference.
Working with the school’s head of dance, Anna Southward, Preston photographer Caroline Holden put together a stunning selection of shots of dancers of all ages to compile the potential money-spinner.
Sales of the calendar will go towards funding the college’s annual Children’s Holiday Trust event in the summer.
Each year the prestigious Jesuit day and boarding school hosts the event which sees children from local special schools spending a week at Stonyhurst being entertained and looked after by the sixth formers.
Besides raising money for the charity, the calendar is also being used to promote dance at the school.
The college was recently awarded Artsmark Gold status by the Arts Council England. Stonyhurst sees dance as an important part of the students’ development and they take part in ballet, tap, modern, contemporary, street dance, zumba and cheerleading.
Classes are held internally for Stonyhurst pupils and the local community – children and adults alike.
