Youngsters at Great Wood Primary School have been playing host to a number of ‘visitors from the past’.
They included an air raid warden from the Second World War, a Roman centurion and an archaeologist – who with the help of three children were ‘transported back in time’ to different points between the Stone Age and Iron Age.
Deputy headteacher Rob Smith said the exciting experiences were part of the school’s ‘WOW’ initiative, which provided a hook to interest and engage the children.
The children study different topics throughout the year with various National Curriculum subjects linked in meaningful ways.
Among the visitors was the Arty Fact Theatre Company and an historical interpreter from Samlesbury Hall, Adrian Warrell, spent the day with Year Three as a Roman Soldier and also visited Years five and six as an air raid warden.
