County councillor Tomlinson, who donned his Christmas jumper for the presentation, said: “The work that the town team does, alongside South Ribble Borough Council, has been one of the main reasons that Leyland Festival has been successfully relaunched.

“The Christmas event simply didn’t exist until recently and is now a major part of the town’s calendar.

“I’m delighted to be able to help in any way I can.”

Martin Carlin, who owns Peppermint Cottage on Hough Lane, said: “The town team are always looking to see these kind of events in Leyland grow.

“The Christmas light switch-on was watched by hundreds of people last year and we want even more this year.

“We’re planning a skating rink and a snow globe and this contribution to our fundraising efforts is very welcome.”

The town team are now planning a sponsored walk from the Lytham Windmill on July 2.
