A man and a woman accused of breaking both a seven-week-old baby’s legs have made their first appearance before a court.

Craig Balwant, aged 21, of Curzon Road, St Annes, and Danielle Warren, aged 22, formerly of Preston Street, Kirkham, are charged with maliciously wounding the baby with intent to cause her grievous bodily harm.

The duo are also accused of assaulting, ill treating or neglecting the baby girl at St Annes in February 2013.

Prosecutor, Adrian Hollamby, asked for the case to be heard at crown court, rather than by magistrates.

Neither of the defendants indicated their pleas to the offences.

The defendants were bailed to appear at Preston Crown Court on March 4 by District Judge Alan Jones, who was sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.
