Driver run over by his own truck suffers potentially life threatening injuries

A driver has suffered potentially life threatening injuries after falling underneath his own moving truck as he tried to climb back into the driver's seat.

Police say a Leyland Daf Flatback truck pulled over onto Redsands Drive, Fulwood, Preston after suffering engine trouble at around 3.20pm yesterday afternoon.

The driver, a 52-year-old man from Poulton, then climbed out the vehicle to attempt to fix the mechanical problem but as he did so the truck began rolling down the road.

The man then tried to climb back into the driver’s seat of the moving vehicle but slipped and slid under the rolling truck.

The truck then smashed into a stationary BMW 1 Series before coming off the road and coming to rest in some road-side bushes.

Police say the man suffered “extensive injuries” to his arm, pelvis, leg and head and was taken to hospital by ambulance from the scene.

Police could not confirm which hospital.

The driver remains in a serious condition in hospital and police say his injuries “could be” life-threatening.

No-one else was injured in the accident, which saw Redsands Drive and Longsands Lane closed for two hours.
