Emergency services rushed to the scene of the two-car crash in Marsh Lane, near the junction with Strand Road, where a red Vauxhall overturned shortly before 10am.
The crash led to heavy traffic along Strand Road for more than an hour, with traffic backed up to the junction with Water Lane until 11.40am.
Fire crews were called to the scene to help recover the occupant from the overturned Vauxhall using a spinal board, before handing the casualty over to paramedics.
Police said the casualty has suffered minor injuries, but has been taken to hospital as a precaution.
The force added that that one of the drivers involved in the crash has been issued with a Traffic Offence Report (TOR) for driving without due care and attention.

A police spokesman said: "We were called at around 9.55am this morning to reports of a minor injury collision in Marsh Lane, close to Strand Road.
"Two vehicles involved, one ended up on its roof. Fire and paramedics attended.
"The road was closed but reopened around 11.40am.
"A fixed penalty notice was issued to one of the drivers involved for driving without due care and attention."
What is a Traffic Offence Report?
According to the Lancashire Police website, anyone caught speeding or driving without due care and attention can be issued a TOR (Traffic Offence Report) and referred to the Magistrates’ Court for prosecution.
This can lead to a conditional offer of a fixed penalty, which is currently set at £100, as well as three points on their licence.
Or, if eligible, the driver might instead receive a speed awareness course offer as an alternative to prosecution.
