Dressed for Sunday dinner?

Summer can often bring out some questionable attire but it appears the hot weather has also brought out some particularly well dressed vegetables.

Carrots have been springing up in Avenham Park in a variety of ensembles, entertaining walkers and bikers alike with their colourful fashion sense.

Freshly skinned, the orange roots are catching the eye of passers-by after turning up at the walkway bridge over the river from Avenham Park, to the right of the Japanese gardens, sporting hair, a bow-tie and even cloaks.

And 17-year-old Benjamin Wareing was one of the first to notice the odd occurrences but says he hasn’t managed to find who’s behind the idea.

“I have no clue who is putting them there. I theorised it could easily be someone who walks the route every day, perhaps on the way to work, easing an otherwise boring walk?

“I was on a walk a few weeks ago, and noticed one sticking from the bridge wall.

“It stood out incredibly, the vibrant orange a direct contrast to the green scenic backdrop, so I took a photograph and documented it.

“The carrot – I think it may be the same one – has a different hairstyle, facial expression and ‘clothing’ every time I see it, starting with a tuxedo and smart look to a ‘chilled out’ minimalist look the other day, topped off with a flower on its head.”

And so the mystery of the vegetable continues, as park-goers in Preston remain baffled as to why they keep appearing.

Having escaped the clutches of the roast dinner preparations, could we now start to see other vegetables in their Sunday best or will they begin appearing around other parts of the city?

Is this vegetables appearance just a bit of fun?

Or like Banksy, is there a hidden political agenda behind the outfits donned and the felt-tipped faces?

Or is it, like Benjamin said, just someone passing the time, curing their boredom or releasing their stifled creativity?

The sighting certainly has the residents of the city puzzled as they now wait to find out how the curious carrots will turn out next time.
