Dozens of mad motorists bemoan '˜slippy' roundabout

After one driver found herself facing the wrong way after she tried to turn off towards Asda at the Fulwood roundabout on Eastway, it seems other road users have also suffered the slippy surface.

Lancashire County Council, which is responsible for the roads, has admitted the road surface is “worn” with its highways manager Ridwan Musa saying the roundabout is on a high priority list to be resurfaced.

And it appears it would be welcomed work, with many recalling tales of when they had road trouble at the “slippy” spot.

Drivers like Phil Hayes, from Leyland, who posted on Facebook to say: “My 4x4 lost grip on back end around this roundabout not long ago, maybe something to do with fuel lorries going into Asda”.

And Gaynor Harper agreed writing: “This happened to me turning right into Asda. Wasn’t going fast at all. Normal dry conditions. Thankfully managed to control the car and stop. Really freaked me out though as never happened before. I even went straight to the Asda petrol station to check the air in my tyres!”.

As did Jean Fleet who posted: “I have done 360 spin on the roundabout there it’s very frightening especially if you have children in the car. I wasn’t going fast but left me very shaken”.

Although most commenters appear to have come away avoiding major injury, it was only four years ago when 50-year-old Phillip Jervis came off his Yamaha motorbike in the same place suffering severe bruising.

Drivers are now being urged to take care and heed ‘slippery road’ signs on all approaching roads.
