Rovers have also confirmed that academy graduate Billy Whitehouse has joined FC Halifax Town on a month's loan.

Main has been unable to force his way into the plans of boss Darren Ferguson and has also suffered from injury niggles throughout the season.

The 23-year-old has made 14 appearances this season, scoring once, but has made only one start and two substitute appearances since Ferguson took charge of the club in October - playing time totalling just 81 minutes.

Ferguson confirmed last week that he intended to send Main out on loan, along with Dan N'Guessan, but injuries were delaying that process.

Main joins an Oldham side sitting 23rd in League One.

Winger Whitehouse has joined National League side Halifax for match experience.

The 19-year-old - highly-rated by Rovers coaches - has made four appearances this season, starting the JP Trophy clash with Burton Albion and the Capital One Cup tie with Ipswich Town.
