Fire crews, police and coastguards used a boat to search a dock basin and a stretch of canal after a man was reported missing.
The co-ordinated operation swung into action on Sunday evening at Glasson Dock, but no trace of the man was found.
A special boat was brought in from Penwortham fire station and deployed with a crew of four firefighters and a member of the coastguard.
“We were called in to assist the police who were searching for a missing person,” said a brigade spokesman at Lancaster.
“We deployed a boat which was brought up from Penwortham and the crew searched Glasson Dock and a length of the Lancaster Canal.
“But we didn’t find anyone and, at the time we were stood down, the man was still missing.”
