'Devastated' family pay tribute to Lancaster man who died in Bolton-le-Sands roof collapse

The family of a 23-year-old man who died after the roof of a house collapsed in Bolton-le-Sands say they are "devastated that this accident has happened".

Liam Peck, 23, from Lancaster, died after the roof of a house he was carrying out building work on collapsed in Church Brow at around 1pm yesterday (Monday, February 8).

A second man in his 40s was taken to Royal Preston Hospital by air ambulance with life-threatening injuries after the fatal collapse.

In a tribute shared this afternoon, Liam's family said: "We are devastated that this accident has happened and that Liam has been taken from us.

"This tragedy will stay with us all, for the rest of our lives. We hope we can be given the privacy we need as a family to grieve our loss."

The force said "enquiries are ongoing" and it is working with the Health and Safety Executive to investigate the fatal accident.

Yesterday, Lancashire Police issued the following statement.

"We were called at around 12.55pm today (Monday, February 8) to reports two people had been seriously injured at an address on Church Brow", the force said.

"We attended and found two men had been injured while carrying out building work at the address.

"One of the men, aged in his 20s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. Our thoughts are very much with his family and friends at this awful time.

"The second man, aged in his 40s, was taken to hospital by air ambulance for treatment for life-threatening injuries and he remains in an extremely serious condition.

"We are working with colleagues at the Health and Safety Executive, though the matter remains with police while enquiries are carried out into the cause of the incident."

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said three fire crews were called to the scene.

A spokesman said: " At 12.54pm, three fire engines from Bolton-le-Sands, Carnforth and Morecambe attended a collapsed structure incident in Bolton-le-Sands.

"Fire crews were in attendance along with Lancashire Police and North West Ambulance Service."
