Rail union RMT has launched its “12 Days of Christmas” initiative against the Northern and Trans-Pennine Express franchise carve up.
It started on Tuesday outside Lancaster Railway Station and will spread out across the rest of the North in the run up to the Christmas break.
RMT members are worried about jobs, services and safety, and will be conducting demonstrations and distributing postcards.
The next demonstrations in the Lancashire area take place outside Lancaster station on Tuesday, December 9 from 4pm to 6pm, and outside Preston station on Wednesday, December 10 from 5.15pm to 7.15pm.
RMT has blasted the Government’s franchise move as “a kick in the teeth” for the travelling public and staff of Northern and Trans-Pennine Express franchises, and claim the process is leading to the “destruction of rail services right across the North”.
