Rail services between Preston and Bolton have been disrupted after a man was killed on the line.

British Transport Police were called shortly before 7am on Tuesday, following reports of a person being struck by a train at Moor Lane tunnel, West Portal, Bolton.

A spokesman for the British Transport Police said: “Our officers are currently on scene, alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and North West Regional Ambulance Service, and have discovered the body of a man who appears to have been struck and killed by a train.

“At this stage the incident is not being treated as suspicious and we are now working to determine the identity of the deceased. Once this has been achieved a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The train involved was the 6.36am Manchester Airport to Barrow in Furness service.
