Chorley’s Derian House has unveiled plans to stage a brand new fund-raising event in Astley Park – a 5k race to be run by men dressed as women.
For the first time the charity has decided to stage a ‘men only’ event in support of all the Derian Dads who do so much to support their family in the face of their child’s illness, and the impact it has on them both emotionally and financially.
“What could be more fun than a whole bunch of men dressed as women, getting together with their mates, having a laugh and raising vital funds for Derian House at the same time?”Susie Poppitt, head of fund-raising at Derian House
‘Dames on the Run’ is the children hospice’s brand new flagship event for 2015, and the charity wants to recruit men from a wide range of backgrounds who are prepared to go all out by throwing off their inhibitions, (along with their trousers), dressing up as a pantomime dame and taking part in the run. The children’s hospice is hoping rugby players, police officers, firefighters and anyone else who is willing to don a dress, will sign up for the first ever ‘Dames on the Run’ event in Astley Park on Sunday, October 11, with prizes for the winner of the race, the ‘Best Dressed Dame’ and a photo competition.
Susie Poppitt, head of fund-raising at Derian House, said: “This is a brand new event in the Derian House fund-raising calendar which we hope will provide runners and spectators alike with a 5k race with a difference, and a lot of entertainment along the way!
“What could be more fun than a whole bunch of men dressed as women, getting together with their mates, having a laugh and raising vital funds for Derian House at the same time?
“We want as many men as possible to sign up and help us raise at least £5,000 sponsorship to help us make a real difference to the life threatened children and families we support throughout the North West.
“So, come on guys, get out those dresses, put on the makeup, and start training for the race of your life!”
