Lancashire Police has set up a new operation targeting "illegal, anti-social and dangerous" bikers who are causing a nuisance on the city's public parks, green spaces, footpaths and roads.

Kick-starting the 'long term' crackdown, known as Op Dismount, the force wants to identify a number of young men photographed riding bikes through the city's parks and playing fields.

A police spokesman said: "We are continuing to receive reports of motorbike nuisance across the Preston area.

"In response to this, we have set up OP DISMOUNT, a long-term operation established specifically to target those people who seem to think that their ongoing illegal, anti-social and dangerous behaviour is acceptable.

"We are working closely with our partners, including local councillors, Preston City Council, land owners and are putting things in place to try and improve the safety of residents and road users in the areas most affected.

"We are also working in partnership with our local housing associations and will look to take joint action if those responsible continue to offend.

"As always, we rely on support and intelligence from our communities to do our job effectively. If motorbike nuisance is a problem where you live then please, stand up, be counted and help us put a stop this this behaviour."

The spokesman added: "If you have any information which could help us to identify and prosecute this person, if you know where we can locate the bike, or if you have taken any similar photos or videos yourself, please email us at [email protected]"
