Young girl is victim of hate crime after being racially abused in Preston

A 12-year-old girl has been racially abused by a man driving through Preston.

The child had been walking along Fylde Road, near the Uclan students' union, when a man in a car hurled racist abuse at her.

Lancashire Police said the incident, which left the child shaken and in tears, is being investigated as a hate crime.

A police spokesman said:"We are appealing for information following a racially aggravated public order incident which occurred on Fylde Road in Preston, near to the junction of Kirkham Street, on Saturday June 20 at approximately 6.15pm.

"It is alleged that a male in a passing car has shouted some racist abuse at a twelve year old girl who was walking in the street at the time."

The force added: "Hate crimes are taken very seriously, and we are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time, particularly if you might have any dashcam footage, to come forward and assist with our enquiries.

"We are eager to trace the driver of a small black hatchback which we have on CCTV in the area at the time. Our CCTV enquiries are ongoing."
