Woman in her 80s wakes up to find burglar in her bedroom in Chorley
A woman in her 80s was left "shaken and scared" after waking up to find a stranger in her bedroom in Chorley.
The incident occurred in Eaves Lane at around 3.30am on Friday, December 18th, when a woman aged in her 80s woke up to find a man in her bedroom.
The man demanded the woman’s purse but was ultimately left empty-handed after searching her home.
Police are now urging anyone with information about the incident, or was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious, to get in touch.
Officers are also urging residents in the area to ensure their homes are secure and to report any suspicious activity to police.
PC Lee Tickle, of Chorley Police, said: "An elderly woman woke up and found a stranger in her bedroom, demanding her purse. This is utterly despicable and it is no surprise the victim has been left shaken and scared.
"We are now appealing for information about the incident and would urge anybody who can help with our enquiries to get in touch. Perhaps you were in the area, returning home from a shift at work or walking your dog, and you saw something suspicious, or maybe you know who might be responsible. If you have any information at all we would ask you to get in touch with us straight away.
"Fortunately the man didn’t take anything from the address. However we will have extra patrols in the area as a precaution and in the meantime would remind residents to lock their doors and windows and to set any alarms and use security chains."
Anybody with information should contact police on 101, quoting log number 1104 of December 18.
