A woman has been charged by police after an allegation of racial abuse in Preston.

Officers say at around 10.40pm on July 19, a woman entered the Tesco Express store in Blackpool Road.

It is believed she became involved in a verbal altercation with store staff and was asked to leave by security.

The woman is then alleged to have racially abused the guard before making off from the scene.

Following a press appeal for information, Leanne Dawson, 35, of West Park Avenue, Preston, was arrested and charged with causing racially aggravated distress and using threatening behaviour.

She has been bailed to appear at Preston Magistrates’ Court on September 21.
