Around 20 police officers, some wearing body armour and shields, descended on Ripon Street at around 10.40am after reports of a row between two men.

Lancashire Police said the row had escalated into threats of violence, with one of the men allegedly wielding a weapon.

Police vehicles were used to block the road as officers dealt with the incident.

One man has been arrested on suspicion of affray, a public order offence, but no injuries have been reported.

Wide-eyed residents watched on as around 10 police vehicles, the dog unit and Tac-Ops surrounded the home.

A man was then handcuffed and led into the back of a police van.

A police spokesman said: "It’s an affray (a verbal altercation between two people).

"One man, aged 37, has been arrested on suspicion of public order (affray)

"There were some weapons, but no injuries."
