Police are investigating after a suspected arson attack where a blazing wheelie bin came close to setting fire to a nearby home.
Firefighters were called to Ripon Street, Preston, at around 5am today
A wheelie bin was well alight – and flames were spreading to a nearby utilities cupboard box housing gas and electricity supplies.
Officers from Preston tackled the blaze using a hosereel.
Crew manager Mick Hayes said the blaze was in danger of spreading to an adjoining home.
“It could have potentially been very serious,” he said. “It could have spread into the flat.”
The blaze was extinguished and no-one was hurt.
