Warning after nuisance fires in Preston

Firefighters in Preston have issued a warning after they attended two deliberate fires overnight.

Crews were called to two fires in Preston

A crew was called to a rubbish fire near Raikes Road at around 7.30pm on Sunday, May 13.

The fire was quickly extinguished using a hose reel.

At around 8pm another engine was called to a bin fire near to the play area in Grange Park.

Once again, the fire was quickly extinguished but firefighters are now warning members of the public that lighting nuisance fires can have serious consequences.

Crew Manager Rob Barker said: "While we are attending deliberate fires it ties up vital resources.

"This means we have a reduced cover for Preston which could potentially lead to a loss of life if we were needed for a more serious incident.

"Thankfully in this instance there was very little damage done and nobody was injured.

"The people who light these fires should be aware that we treat deliberate fires very seriously and are investigating."
