A group of men and women visited Leyland Methodist Junior School in Canberra Road over the weekend (December 5 and 6), reportedly arriving in the evenings and not leaving until the early hours of the morning.

While at the school the vandals trashed a marque which was built "for the children's educational needs", leaving behind empty alcohol bottles, drug paraphernalia, cigarette ends and gas canisters.

A child's scooter was also stolen by the group - an incident which police say was caught on CCTV.

Pupils have been unable to use the marquee as a result of the damage and a deep clean will need to carried out due to Covid-19 safety precautions

It has also put a planned visit from Santa Claus in jeopardy, police added.

Detectives say enquiries into the incident are underway but they are urging anyone with information to email [email protected].
